Hunan Medical University, now known as the Xiangya School of Medicine at Central South University, is a prestigious institution with a distinguished history in medical education. Founded in 1914 as the Xiangya Medical College through a joint initiative by the Hunan Yuqun Society and the Yale-China Association, it became China's first medical school based on international collaboration. The university was renamed Hunan Medical University from 1987 to 2000, and on April 29, 2000, merged with Central South University of Technology and Changsha Railway Institute to form the present Central South University.
